Kupa Diagnosis

GG and I took a 45 minute drive to the Children’s Hospital this morning to see a pediatric Gastroenterology specialist (wow that’s a mouthful – let’s just say GI doc from here on out, shall we?). Let me tell you, this GI doc was on his A-game today. Our appointment was scheduled for 10am, and he comes walking in at 10:03am. Very impressive. So anyway, this GI doc takes one look at GG and says “Wow, he looks great! Is the diarrhea the only thing wrong with him?” I reply “Yes, that’s about it – four long weeks of stinky kupa misery.” (For those of you who are new here, read my earlier post for the scoop on “kupa” – no pun intended) He takes a closer look at GG, feels his belly, checks his mouth, and says “He has what’s known as Toddler’s Diarrhea”

Toddler’s Diarrhea: defined as diarrhea that

  • lasts for more than two weeks
  • usually consists of 5-10 watery stools per day
  • in a child between about 6 months to 4 or 5 years old
  • who is growing and developing normally and otherwise seems healthy
  • there is no detectable medical cause for the diarrhea such as infection, food malabsorption or allergy, etc.

Fantastic. We have no clue what the hell this is, but it’s not a bad thing, so at least that’s good. Ironic part is that it cost me $260 for the diagnosis, and it took me 2.6 seconds about 2 nights ago to Google it and figure it out on my own.

I knew this is what it was, but decided to go to the doc anyway because I wanted to be sure. And that to me is priceless.

This shit goes away eventually – pun fully intended. He’s going to be ok. Thank God.

Yeah sometimes confirmation is priceless! I have to stay away from Google though, according to what I read, my whole family is dying of something or another. Glad you little one is going to be alright!
