Back from the brink

Wow, what a run we’ve had over here. First of all, I would like to thank everyone for their well-wishes, and I hope to catch up on everyone’s blogs this weekend. We are finally coming back from the brink of what I consider to be the sickest I have been in years.

On Tuesday, I was running a 103 fever all day with the worst sore throat and GG was throwing up everywhere as well as having diarrhea. T3 was still holding his own, which was my only saving grace. I was exhausted and couldn’t wait until the boys went to bed, so that I could curl into a ball in my bed and die go to sleep. The plan was to get T3 down for the night and then spend the extra TLC getting GG to go soundly to sleep afterwards. Well, after sending DH to the store for yet another medicine run, I was ready to put the boys to bed. Well, I ended up putting GG down first (which as you will see, was the best thing I could have done) and then T3 went to bed. I collapsed on the couch.

Then an ear shattering scream interrupted my self-pity session.

I ran upstairs realizing it was T3. I turned the lights on and saw my baby boy laying in the bed in a pool of vomit. Dear God. I stripped him down, as well as the bed. Ran the sheets downstairs and proceeded to clean him up. While I am cleaning T3 up, he vomits again, this time all over me. Ok, this is not looking good. I try to put him back to bed 10 minutes later thinking everything has calmed down, and ended up with another set of sheets ruined as well as the comforter this time. Well, to make a long story short – T3 proceeded to vomit once every 10-15 minutes all night long. I basically sat next to him on the floor downstairs with a bucket, giving him water so that he didn’t dry heave. The last episode was at 9:45am when I finally was able to give him some Emetrol, which my MIL so graciously ran over for me in the morning for me. I will never again be without Emetrol in my house. And somewhere in the middle of all of this I found GG with a diaper blowout of diarrhea all over his bed. My poor DH was dancing with him keeping him happy, while I ran the sheets downstairs and held a bucket for T3. All of this happened while I was still in the throes of being incredibly sick myself.

Wednesday was no piece of cake, but it paled in comparison to the previous night. I again had the 103 fever, and with my MIL over was able to sneak in an hour nap which felt glorious. My own mother, my sweet Mamusia, just happened to be flying in that day in the evening to join in celebrating GG’s first birthday. Best part is that my mom is a doctor and quickly took one look at me and my throat and suspected strep and a bad bacterial sinus infection. She wrote a prescription for antibiotics, and I now finally feel human again.

So, here I was with (probable) strep, as well as a stomach virus, while both boys had the stomach virus. T3 is doing so much better now, but he is now crying to have one of us lay down with him before bed until he falls asleep because he got accustomed to it while he was sick. And GG is doing great, but still has a touch of diarrhea which seems to be subsiding.

I couldn’t be happier that my boys are better. And thank god for antibiotics. If I didn’t have a mom for a doctor, I’d have to suffer for two weeks with other doctors telling me that it’s probably viral before I could even hope to get any. I won’t start my rant on the under-prescribing of antibiotics – I’ll leave that for another time.

I am so glad this week is finally over.  So, now I have had to reschedule GG’s first birthday party for next weekend, which sucks because I am working.  But I never would have been able to get everything together for tomorrow, plus everyone would have caught our dreaded plague and I wouldn’t wish this upon anyone EVER.
