Husband + Cell Phone = Blog Fodder

My husband called me today from work, not from his cell phone but one of the work landlines. My inital thought was that he must have left his cell phone at home.

“Hey, you’re not going to believe this, but I dropped my phone in the toilet…”

I tried to contain my laughter as he started to give me a play-by-play of how it happened. You see, there’s more to this back story which makes me laugh at my husband’s expense. He has a colorful history with cell phones, going back to the first day of our honeymoon.

We arrived in Hawaii exhausted after a very long flight and basically went up to our suite and crashed. The next day was so exciting as we headed down to the beach to check out the ocean. My husband was the first to jump in the water and swam around for about 30 minutes before coming back to shore to see how my baking in the sun was going. As he comes out of the water, he jumps what seems to be 10 feet in the air, like he got bitten by some ocean creature in his swimming trunks. He reaches into his pocket only to pull out his vibrating cell phone. And this is how my husband’s cell phone fiascos began.

We are currently on his fifth phone, all of which have in one way or another ended in a watery grave. The Pacific ocean, the shower, and two toilets later, my husband is now the proud owner of a Motorola i580, which is certified to Military 810 Spec standards to be resistant to extreme environments and also water resistant (it floats).

Now that I think about it… Makes me wonder if this was all a ploy all along to have me get him this uber phone. Ooh, he’s good.

I want and NEED a phone like that! I too have dropped a phone in the toilet, another one in a glass of diet pepsi, another one got washed in the washer….and I could go on.

I’m wondering if this ploy would work on my parents for my birthday…then again, I’ve always been pretty good with phones so they may see through it.

    DAMN.

Either way, I loved this story! ha ha ha ha.

Now you just have to hope he doesn’t LOSE this one! (And, if he does, I’ll have to take full blame because I said that! LOL!)

He’s either very clever, or very klutzy.
Allen drops his at work frequently, we are almost to the point of needing to get him his 2nd phone.
No toilets yet though, thankfully. Son did drop his wallet in a pit toilet at summer camp last year though. Oh how he cried, but they saved it.

Oh my God! Your post literally made me fall out of my seat laughing. Too funny! I think your hubby sounds more like me than my husband. I have flushed more than one thing accidentally down the toilet. I used to be a manager at a department store and I accidentally flushed the store keys down the toilet. They had to get a plumber out to the store to retrieve my keys. And then to top things off I still had to USE the keys after they got them out of the toilet. That was nice. My husband is the together one in our family. I hope your husband does better with his new phone.

It’s not my hubs I have to worry about, it’s my son. He’s jump in a pool with phone in his pocket. I’ve washed it twice and he left it in the woods for a week. I better not let him know about the uber phone.

Does my kid washing her USB in the washing machine count as something almost as brilliant? :)

I’ve jumped into a pool before with a cell phone on. It didn’t work for about two weeks (while it dried out), I was surprised when I heard it ring again. The vibrate feature never worked again, but I was just happy that I was able to pull my phone numbers out of it.
