The time has come for a breakup. Yes, my trusty sidekick has to be kicked to the curb, and a new one needs to replace him.
My Olympus camera has been there during good times and bad, but has failed to impress now that my kids are mobile. Problem is that it takes amazing still photographs, but my kids are never what you would call still. I also can’t stand the delay on the shutter - 75% of the pictures I get are of a blur of GG whizzing by or of T3 blinking and looking like he is sleepwalking.
What I need is a sidekick that can capture T3’s attempts at jumping like a frog or GG’s attempts to be a daredevil skydiving off the couch. I need to capture the moments that are passing by me at the speed of life!
I know several of you out there have honed your photography skillz and are absolutely smitten, so I ask of you what would you recommend be my new sidekick? I’ll be doing my own research over the next few days, but as I always say “Mamas know best!”

Look no further than the Nikon D40. Shoot, they should start paying me. Four bloggers just bought one and LOVED it.
It is a real camera but simple enough to point and shoot. I can take a picture of Jay shooting hopps and catch the ball in 4 different points. AWESOME!

OHmommy, I have actually been looking at the Nikon D60 the last few days. I am wondering if it’s pretty much the same as the D40? I will do some digging to find out. I am so glad you commented about it, because it makes me think that I am on the right track.

Yes, the Nikon D40 ROCKS! Can’t say enough about it. Just visit Flickr and see some of the D40 photos. Amazing possibilities!!!!

Oh, I wanted to add, if you visit Ken Rockwell’s site, he gives some great input on choosing a camera…and he really loves the D40. It is entry level SLR camera, but so good that it is used by many professional photographers.

Hubby and I do a little photography and he’s got the Nikon D70. It’s a pain to carry around when we want to go places that would normally call for a point and shoot. It’s bulky, but it takes amazing pictures. I think he’s about to upgrade to the latest Nikon in that line, but we haven’t decided yet. Good luck!

I am actually head over heels for my new Canon Rebel XTI. It’s my baby and I huge puffy heart it.
Courtney (judith shakespeare) has one too and she takes fabu pics with hers. I love mine and it’s super easy to use.

I have the Sony A100.. but I am looking to upgrade soon because the Sony is still so new to the market that everything is SO EXPENSIVE. Good luck on your purchase.. let us know what you get..
