60 Minutes of Electronic Silence

I took the challenge… Huckdoll’s challenge that is.

I turned off the computer, TV, and cell phone at exactly 9pm EST for an hour.

And you know what I learned?

I learned:

  • that my son had a great time at the kiddie park today with his grandmother
  • that he was afraid to ride the Merry-Go-Round, but not the boats
  • that he rode the boats and cars at least 15 times
  • that there are almost 30 verses to “Wheels on the Bus”
  • that he had a nightmare about a purple snake during his nap today
  • that my son likes eating the croĆ»tons out of my salad, but nothing else
  • that I can get in a good shower and shave in less than 20 minutes
  • that the tooth whitener I have been meaning to start using really does work
  • that my husband misses me in the evenings

And most importantly I learned that the internet will still be here when I get back, but those little things I would have missed had I been on the computer could have been lost forever.

So, go ahead and try it… turn your electronics off for an hour… I think you’ll like it.

    Awesome! We did it, too!

We didn’t talk but did get hot and sweaty.

Hear, hear. I did the challenge too and highly enjoyed. Although now, I’m feverishly running around reading posts and leaving comments. Hmmm… does that negate my unplug time? :-)

It’s challenges like Huck’s that make me want to throw my lappy out the window sometimes!

I was travelling for work so I didn’t participate but I think it’s great. We all get so tied up in the online world and with our electronic devices. Sounds like you had a great power hour!

so true. i didn’t do this last night… but all weekend we were outside and playing and doing parties and all that sort of stuff.. NO computers, tv or phones… not even cell phones b/c we had NO service, but it was GREAT!! :) sure at night once the kiddos were washed and in bed, I would jump on for a little bit here and there, but for the most part I wasn’t on here. :) it was nice. Like when our power and cable went out, and then we had no cable for almost a week… it was amazing, my house was cleaner, my laundry was caught up, my kids ate three meals a day, lol, they do anyway… but things were different. :) I’ve thought of only having a few days a week where I’m “allowed” or alotted computer time and sticking to it… that way I don’t miss all these things. :)

great post!! glad you did it!!

    xoxoxo
